Summer is starting to wind down. Leaves are turning and there’s a lot more rain, although I feel like here in Dundee we got more than our fair share of summer downpours and less than sunny days. I do love summer but winter is my favourite and I can feel it creeping closer. I want an end to the constant mugginess and can’t wait for those brighter than bright, super cold, fresh mornings. I definitely associate those kind mornings with my walk to the studio at the dance school I trained at. It’s suddenly hitting me that this is the first time in years I won’t be making my way to ballet first thing in the morning straight after summer, craving all the hard work for the year ahead along with all the blood sweat and tears that accompany it.
However, I’m moving forward and can do that knowing all my training, hard work and passion are bringing me new projects. Projects where I’m not a student but (scarily) a ‘professional’. It’s tricky to wrap my head around that concept because I know I will always be the type of person who is an eternal student; constantly curious and wanting to learn everything I possibly can. So, it’s really exciting to be given studio space by the incredible company I work for to challenge myself and explore my movement and creative process. Bring on the sore muscles, the frustration, the excitement and sheer joy of moving my body. Dance is my way of understanding myself and I’m looking forward to this new exploration with all my heart and soul.
This drink is something I’ve been sipping on when I need some good vibes and a burst of energy. It contains my favourite flavour; cardamom. I can’t get enough. I’ve been making this pre-dance or pre-planning session to fill me with goodness and ready to get going. It gives me a light buzz but feels grounding at the same time. Heart opening with some zen thrown in there.
The beauty of drinks like this is how easy they are to tailor make to suit your mood or your needs that day. I don’t tend to switch this up too much because it’s really working for me but it can easily be done. First of all, I’m enjoying this cold with ice to wake me up but it actually tastes just as good served warm and provides some soothing when done so (just omit the ice and warm up the milk before blending). The cashew butter is easily swapped out for coconut or almond or any type of nut or seed butter you have on hand. The ashwagandha can be switched to maca if you really want a boost and a buzz without the jitteriness of coffee.
My Good Vibes Drink
1 1/2 cup water or plant based milk
1/2 tbsp cashew butter
1 tsp cacao powder
1/2 tsp ashwagandha
1 heaped tsp tocos (if using water I tend to add 1 tbsp of tocos to up the creaminess)
1 medjool date
pinch of vanilla
pinch of cardamom (cardamom can be a strong flavour, I use whole pods and will use all of the seeds from one pod)
small handful of ice
Blend everything together until smooth and frothy. If you don’t have a high powered blender you may want to strain before serving. Serve immediately and enjoy your cup of bliss.
