Coconut Butter Turmeric Chai

A grounding, warming and earthy drink with a little kiss of sweetness to chill you out. That’s what this turmeric chai potion does for me.

Today has been spent writing and planning. It’s incredibly easy for me to get too caught up in what I’m doing, thinking far ahead and feeling like my energy is thinning out and up way too high. When this happens it becomes normal that I will forget to eat, time rushes past without my noticing and suddenly I feel worn out, emotionally and mentally drained desperate to wind back down. Anxiety can leave you exhausted before you know it.

In the spirit of winding down I made a warming potion – because don’t I always? Feeling the hot mug in my hand, the liquid gold froth, the instant relaxation that hits me as I feel each sip work it’s way from my lips to my stomach. There are very few things a cup of tea can’t help in my experience.

Using coconut butter with hot water creates a really lovely creamy base for adding spices, herbs, powders and adaptogens. Today I chose things that I know help bring me back down into my body; turmeric, cinnamon and ashwagandha.


Coconut Butter Turmeric Chai

1 1/2 cups hot (not boiling) water – usually I will boil my kettle, pour the water into my mug and let it cool for a few minutes before adding to my blender

1 1/2 tsp or 1 tea bag of your favourite chai tea

1 tbsp coconut butter

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp ashwagandha

couple of black peppercorns

1/2 tsp vanilla

(for sweetness you can add 1 tsp of your favourite sweetener)


Place your chai tea in a mug with hot water and let brew for roughly five minutes (strain if using loose tea once brewed). Add all ingredients to blender and blend on high for 2-3 minutes or until smooth and frothy.

Enjoy immediately.
